Senior Men Development Team

We played Kerins O Rahillys away on Thursday 20th at 7.30pm. It was a fantastic performance from the team, where Mitchels came out the victors on a score- line of 3-11 to 2-10.

Senior Ladies

Donal Curtin Cup Round 5 – Firies 2-10   John Mitchels 2-03.

John Michels put their adventures in this years Corrib Oil Senior Club League behind them on Monday night when they travelled to Firies for the fifth round of the Donal Curtin Cup.

On a night more akin to December than mid-July, John Mitchels won the toss and elected to play with the slight wind in the opening half.  Firies started the stronger and had 2 points in the opening five minutes one from a close in free and the other from open play.

The John Mitchels response was immediate and a sweeping move from Julie Foley to Shannon Martin onto Linda O’Connor who released Ava Buckley to play a pinpoint pass into full forward Shauna Flynn who turned and blasted the ball to the Firies net to put the visitors a point in front in the seventh minute.

The home side responded with three quickfire points before a great move between Tanya O’Connor, Aoife O’Brien, Diana O’Keeffe and Emelia Obrusnik ended with Grace Hamilton dissecting the posts to reduce the advantage to a point with ten minutes remaining in the first half.

Firies responded with their sixth point of the half before Kayleigh Collins found Jamie Finnegan with an accurate kick out and Jamie played a superb pass into Grace Hamilton who added her second point from a very acute angle.

Just as the half time whistle approached Firies struck for a goal slightly against the run to play toleave the half time score 1-06 to 1-02 in favour of the home team.

With conditions deteriorating, possession was at a premium and Sarah Kilgallen, Simi Ogungsbesan and Lucie O’ Donoghue really began to push John Mitchels forward.

Rachel Kilgallen reduced the lead to three points five minutes into the second half before Fires made a quick response with three points to push them six points clear midway through the second half.

John Mitchels then emptied the bench and introduced Ellie O’Rahilly, Ellie Reidy, Sandra Marshall, Emma Lynch and Sophie O Donoghue and the move worked a treat when shortly afterwards Diana played Rachel in for a wonderful goal to cut the deficit to a single goal with ten minutes remaining.

Firies increased the lead to four points with five minutes left and added a late goal to see them run out deserving winners by 2-10 to 2-03 in a very entertaining encounter in spite of the difficult conditions.

The game was excellently handled by match referee John Purcell.  As an aside it was heartening to see Erica O’Connor back in the fold and hopefully, we can look forward to having Erica back on the field very shortly.

Training continues Thursday night at 7.15 and as always, all new players are more than welcome as we prepare for our 6th round game in the Donal Curtin Cup which will be a home fixture v Listowel Emmets.

Under 16 Girls

The U16s had a great turnout for training Monday prior to home game Wednesday V MKL Gaels. There was plenty of work put in working on scoring and attack-based drills. The Girls lost out narrowly V MKL Gaels on Wednesday evening. From start to finish the girls held strong got scores on the board from play.

Midfield played some fabulous ball linking with the backs moving the ball onto the forwards ending in scores. There were some serious standout performances by all. They all stepped up the mark and really showed how far we have come throughout the season to date. Ending score line 2-08 John Mitchel’s v 1-14 to MKL Gaels

Under 15 boys

On Wednesday evening last we made the short trip to Kileen  to face Na Gaeil  in the fourth round of the Central League.

With ideal conditions on a sunny evening the Mitchels boys were well up for this game. We got off to a flyer with some well taken scores and fine passages of play on display eventually running out winners on a score of John Mitchels 2-15 Na Gaeil 13pts. Training details to follow in WhatsAPP.

Under 14 Girls

John Mitchels u14 green team had a tough challenge at home to Beale in the second last round of the County League on Monday last, and after a physical game, they came out on top. An early goal from Ciara Harris set the team on the way to victory, Kelly O’Sullivan and Claudia Duffin adding points, before Beale kicked their first point.

Further scores followed from Ciara and Kerri Falvey (f) before Beale got 2 points to pull themselves back into the game. However, Mitchels defence was working hard, with Natalia Hennig in particular standing out, along with Gia Sharma both of whom limited the chances of the Beale team.

Mitchels kicked on with goals by Caoimhe Nammock and Anna Marie Perkins, her fourth in 2 games and at the end of the break it was 3-6 to 0-3 to Mitchels, with further scores from Claudia Duffin and Kerri Falvey. Mitchels continued to push in the second half, with an early score from Kerri Falvey, and a comeback goal from Beale was responded to by one from Mitchels, with Ciara scoring a second goal.

Beale tried hard to come back but with Amy Noonan in flying form at midfield, Mitchels kept popping points and had a comfortable 4-10 to 1-6win.

The previous evening, the Gold team had a tough battle against Inbhear Sceine Gaels C, but the South Kerry team were just too strong in the scoring stakes and we wish them well in the rest of the competition. This week, the Green team are away to Dr Crokes, while the Gold team are away to Castleisland Desmonds.
