Club Notes 15th August 2022

SENIOR MEN

The senior men played Laune Rangers in the Intermediate Championship last Sunday in glorious conditions in our home grounds.
The first half was exciting and Laune Rangers raced into a 2 point lead.

We came into the game and added great scores from Alan O Donoghue.

We traded scores and we went into half time trailing 6 points to 5

We drew level early in the second half but Laune Rangers had a purple patch and added two goals, which effectively ended the contest and Laune rangers ended deserving winners on score line of 2-09 to 0-08.

While we still await the central league semi-final fixture time and date we continue to train every Monday and Friday evening @5-30pm.

U14 GIRLS

It was a busy weekend for the John Mitchels u14 girls as they had 2 games in the North Kerry u14 league.

The first game saw the girls travel to Ballymac on Friday evening to play a team they had beaten earlier in the season.

Despite missing a number of players Mitchels played very well in an evenly balanced first half and there was all to play for at the break.

With the strong sun beating down, water breaks were the order of the day and impressive performances from Claudia, Kerri and Megan in the full forward line kept Mitchels in touch.

However towards the end of the game, the extra scoring power of Ballymac told and they were to run  out winners. However it was a good performance by our players.

It also marked the first game for the team in their new jerseys. Sponsored by Dublin Marketing Agency “In The Company of Huskies”, we are hugely grateful to Managing Director Brian Leonard and his team for their sponsorship and to our own Club Member Brian Nammock for his work

This led onto a second game on Monday night at home to Currow, with the match report to follow next week.

UNDER 13 BOYS

U13A Team

Our U13 As were in action against Austin Stacks Wednesday evening in the central league.

This was our 3rd time facing the men from the rock this year and while we already had two wins, nothing could be taken for granted in a town derby.

So it proved as stacks put us under strong pressure from the off.

In ideal playing conditions, it was score for score for much of the first half, our boys only getting the upper hand late in the half to go in five points clear.

In the second half, we enjoyed a good deal of the possession but found it difficult to break down a resolute Stacks defence.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchels 0-17
Austin Stacks 0-7

We also have the Rose Cup next Saturday again time to be confirmed

U12 Girls

Congratulations also to our star midfielder Amy Noonan who this week became a National Community games 600 meter silver medalist.

It was a powerful run from Amy, and inches separated her from the Carlow girl who took gold.

Amy is an incredibly dedicated athlete and is constantly taking time off her PB. Everyone in John Mitchels is extremely proud of her

Training continued for our 12 girls this week and we had two really good sessions with the girls.

We are still waiting for our fixtures for the upcoming Tralee Town league and we are hopeful that the effort being show in training will be reflected on the score board.

We are getting fantastic numbers to training and the the energy and commitment from the girls is to be admired.

The improvement since the start of the season has been massive and a lot of credit must be given to the girls who are really giving it everything this season.

We will train this week on Wednesday from 7-8 and again on Sunday morning at midday, and we look forward to seeing everyone.
