Senior Men
Senior Men County League Division 3:
John Mitchels 1-13
Renard 1-12
The John Mitchels senior men’s team won against a tough Renard team who made life very difficult for us.
Assisted by a strong breeze in the first half our first attack resulted in a brilliant offensive mark by Peter Murphy and this was our tactic.
Quick ball to our forwards netting us 1-3 after 15 mins. A well taken goal by young Jack Donoghue, who caught it on the half volley after a hand pass almost got away from him, was the highlight of the first half.
Renard kicked a few scores of their own and had a few wide’s also against a strong first half breeze and with a half time score of 1-6 to 0-7, we knew the second half would be tough going and so it proved to be.
They crept back in the game with some well worked scores using the wind to their advantage with their goal coming from a high lobbing ball punched to the net making it a one-point game.
Mitchels made some changes bringing in Shane Connor, Mike Wren and Alan Donoghue. Mike made a difference around the middle catching some nice ball which created good platform for our attacks.
Alan keeping their defenders on their toes and Shane driving forward at every opportunity. Our backs defended with tenacity and got a decent handle on their men.
Led by the White Brothers, we got good turnover ball in the tackle which made life very difficult or Renard especially in the last ten minutes when we really needed them to come through. James Duggan kicking 10 points today must get a notable mention.
Mikey Kelliher at corner forward, made some great runs with every ball sticking to his hands like glue with every pass finding it’s man. Pat Kearney also worked hard around the middle with Cian Holden always looking to carry ball to the opposition.
A little too close for comfort but a win is a win!! Thanks to Renard for a great game. Next up Annascaul
A special word of thanks to our under 9 boys who showed their excellent skills and talent at half-time with two exhibition games hosted. Thanks to our Juvenile Chair Mark McEvoy and the Under 9 mentors for organising. Na Misteallaigh Abu

Senior Ladies
Our Senior ladies started off their first competitive game v Finuge St Senans in Ballyseedy on Sunday at 12.155PM. Conditions were ideal with Mitchels playing with wind advantage in the first half where every score was hard earned as both defensive were giving nothing away, Diana from a free put us one up and further points from Rachel (2) and Lilly (2) put us 5-3 up at the short whistle.
The second half was again a very competitive affair with at times some heavy tackling but our ladies were determined in their first game against last years Runners up in the Senior Ladies County Championship not to go down easily.
A flurry of late scores from Ava and a last gasp free from Rachel left us all level at the end 8 points each a draw. Well done to all our players from Emma in goals right through the defence, midfield, forwards and subs who came on to boost the display. Our next game is home to Kilcummin details to follow. Well done everyone

Under 15 Boys
On Thursday evening the u15s were away to Laune Rangers in the first round of the country league. The boys got off to a really good start with an early goal to set the tempo and they dominated proceedings for the first half racing in to a 5pt lead at the break.
The second half was a different story when Laune Rangers rattled off 3pts in a row to bring the game to 2pts. John Mitchels added another point then a Rangers goal to level proceedings.
The John Mitchels boys dug deep and battened down the hatches tacking on 3 unanswered points rallying to a victory with a final score of Laune rangers 03-13 John Mitchels 04-12. Well done to all involved.
Under 14 Girls
John Mitchels Green 5-10
Finuge St Senans 1-0
John Mitchels kept their winning run going in Division 7 of the County League, with a comprehensive victory over Finuge St Senans on Sunday in Mountcoal.
With the Gold team playing in Ballyseedy, numbers were tight, but the players controlled matters from the off and an early point from Ciara, followed by goals from Kerri and Ciara (2) and another point from Kerri inside 10 minutes, put us in a controlling position.
Pressuring the kick outs from the opposing team worked well in securing possession and further points from Kerri and Ciara kept the pressure on.
Our defence was sharp, mopping up any attacks that came our way, with our half-back line of Natalia, Nicole and Laoise on top and moving the ball forward quickly.
Further scores from Caoimhe, who created a lot of chances for her teammates, Amy and Ciara were added to by a late goal from Ciara to leave it 4-7 to no score at the break.
The second half saw Mitchels continue to dominate, with Dionne opening the scoring from a free.
This saw Mitchels controlling the game, and a penalty from our goalkeeper Grace, left the result in now doubt before a brace of points from Kerri wrapped up the scoring for Mitchels.
Finuge had a late goal to get on the scoreboard, but the whole Mitchels panel can be very happy with how they played.
John Mitchels Gold 8-12
St Pats 4-8
Our Gold team welcomed St Pats to Ballyseedy for Round Three of the Division 8 County League, led by captain Faye Moloney who was outstanding on the day, winning ball in center-field and delivering it into our forwards.
St Pats came back before half-time but Mitchels rose to the challenge and had a very good second half to secure the win. Training continues during the week and parents will be informed of training times.
Under 13 Boys
The U13 Green team fell to a strong Na Gael side in a very hotly contested affair. Both teams fought hard and the early goals for Na Gael were the difference, final score of 5:10 to 2:10. All the boys gave it 100% but we just couldn’t get the necessary scores.
The U13 Gold team were stronger in every line and led by 0:04 to 0:03 at the break with both teams defending well. The second half was a one-way affair with our defence keeping the opposition scoreless and our midfield and forwards getting more joy from the nice conditions. Final score of 2:08 to 0:03
