Club Notes 8th August 2022

SENIOR MEN

The senior men played Dromid Pearses in first round of intermediate championship in glorious conditions in Glenbeigh on Saturday 06th of August.

The boys played glorious football in first half with great scores from James Duggan and we raced into a half time lead of 10 points to 1-4.

The team continued with the great work rate and Alan O Donoghue and Shane o Connor added on great scores to leave us winning on a score line 0-20 to 1-08. The seniors now play Laune Rangers next Sunday 14th at home at 2.30pm throw in.

SENIOR LADIES

Donal Curtin Cup final played in Cromane last weds night v Southern Gaels B, played in dull windy conditions this was always going to be a big ask against the Kerry ladies kingpins southern Gaels.

We opened brightly keeping Southern Gaels to just 4 points in the first quarter through solid defence and marking.  In the second quarter the gaps began to open and southern Gaels opened up a 9-point lead at half time.

After the break Mitchels reorganized first to injury and positional changes which certainly improved our lot and we were most unlucky not to have had 2 goals in the 3rd quater.

Entering the final quarter, we continued to give it our all and a late penalty to us helped raise the spirits but eventually we were beaten by a very good team, but never gave up and fought to the final whistle.

It was a great achievement to make the final with such a young team.

Well done ladies we are proud of your never say die approach, next up we play Beale on Tuesday 9th August at 7.30 pm in Mitchels in the north Kerry league.

Please show your support.

U14 GIRLS

John Mitchels girls u14s had 2 tough training sessions last week in advance of the start of the North Kerry League this week.

Our first game is away to Ballymacelligott, which is likely to take place on Friday and the training sessions saw some intense training games played.

Thursday saw the John Mitchels u16s take on the u14s in a very competitive challenge match with the game benefitting both sides in advance of their forthcoming league games.

Training continues this Tuesday at 6pm.

UNDER 13 BOYS

Round 2 of the Central League saw both our u13s teams line out against Laune Rangers. The Bs were first in action and maintained a fine run of form with a comfortable win over the men from the Laune, in the process picking off some fine scores. This team is improving all the time and its highly encouraging that the majority are under 13 again next year, indeed a good deal who are currently U11 have two more years at this age!!

FINAL SCORE; John Mitchels B 4-15 – Laune Rangers B 3-3

The As were next up against a club we have had some great battles with over the previous few years. This was to be no different with very little in it at half time with the As facing into the wind in the 2nd half. The blues picked off some great scores to level the game midway through the half but our lads knuckled down to pick off some great scores on the break following strong pressure. Our defence was resolute with a few great saves and a goal line clearance getting us over the line.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchels A 3-12 – Laune Rangers A 2-7

We face Austin Stacks A and B in the next round of the Central League in Ballyseedy next Sunday, B game at 5pm and the As at 6.30pm. Training continues Wednesday at 7pm and Friday at 9pm.

U12 Girls

There is a consistent great turn out for training on Sundays and Wednesdays. The benefits can be seen in how the girls are playing with confidence and skill. There is a great bond within the team. It’s great to see our new recruits Sophie and Maya settling in so well. Congratulations to John Mitchels U12 girls star Aine Ní Dhubhlainn who took second place in Scéalaíocht U12 competition at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar yesterday.

UNDER 11 BOYS

We had our first outing of the Central League away to Milltown Castlemaine on Thursday evening; our older boys went toe to toe against a very skilful and physical Milltown team but the hosts eventually pulled away in the second half .

Our younger boys showed great heart and determination and put in their best performance of the year so far.

Well done boys.

Training at 6pm Thursday.

Upcoming fixtures:  Home to Laune Rangers Sunday 14th @ 11am.
