SENIOR LADIES

John Mitchels 3-6 Kerins ORahillys 2-2

Our senior ladies made the short trip across town to play Rahillys in Strand Rd, Mitchels made a good start and an early point by Niamh Myers followed by goals from Sarah Kilgallen and Niamh Myers gave us a solid foundation. with Ashleigh Murphy and Rachel kilgallen working tirelessly aided by an Ava Buckley point Mitchels added to their lead, some excellent defence from Lauren Smullen , Simi Ogugsbesan ,Shannon Martin and Tanya O Connor kept the blues at bay leaving us 2-4 to 1-1 up at the short whistle .

The second half was a tight affair with both teams guilty of wide’s but a penalty to Mitchels converted by Ava Buckley put a bit of daylight between the teams, Kayleigh Collins in goals pulled off some top saves as Rahillys pushed for scores , Jamie Finnegan was flying at corner back ably assisted by Linda O Connor ,Sophie O Donoghue & Grace Myers Mitchels Rachel Kikgallen added a point from a free followed by Ava Buckley converting a point from a second penalty ,

Rahillys pushed for a goal and we’re rewarded with same. Ruth O Neill came on for Sophie. Mitchels held out for a very good victory well done to all. On behalf of the senior ladies we pass on our very best wishes to our own Anna Murphy who is getting married next Friday to Martin Stack have a wonderful wedding and the very best for the future.

U14 GIRLS

There was the long trip to Kenmare to take on Inbhear Sceine Gaels on Monday night and the bus journey proved to be successful with a 4-8 to 1-5 victory.

Goals from Ellie Reidy (2), Kerri Falvey and Ciara Harris proved the difference between the teams, with strong defense led through the center by Sadhbh Corkery and Ava Sharma kept the Inbhear Sceine scores to minimum.

The squad played their part, coming on to give players a break and leave Mitchels unbeaten after 3 rounds of the league.

This was followed up by a slightly shorter trip to Killarney on Sunday to play Dr Crokes.

UNDER 13 BOYS

A busy week for our u13s with two games for both teams
On Sunday week last, we again hosted Keel\Listry in the last game of Phase 2 of the County League. For both teams the pathway to a county semi-final was to be decided.

First off, our Bs had a great tussle with Keel\Listry B. After finding ourselves behind by 5 at half point, we came out of the blocks like a rocket in the 2nd half to hit the lead by 4. Keel/Listry to their credit rallied and equalised with a fine goal but we regained the initiative to win by the finest margin – 2-10 to 3-6. This result saw our lads top their group which was a great achievement and confirmed us for a big town derby versus Austin Stacks

In the 2nd game, our A’s were on a retrieval mission following defeat to Firies in the previous round. Knowing that nothing else but a win would suffice, our lads played with great determination from the off and held a healthy advantage by half time. Keel/Listry were far from done through and a goal followed by some well taken points brough them back into the game.

The A’s came again though, responding well to the pressure to end up deserving winners in the end on a score line of 4-13 to 1-11. A huge win and enough to guarantee our place in the Division 1 semi-final against the men from the Rock also.

With the A’s and B’s both having Austin Stacks as their opponents a huge night of Football lay in wait in Connolly park last Sunday evening.

The B’s were first in action and with Stacks electing to play with the wind in the first half, the rockies got off to a great start with a goal. Our boys responded immediately with a goal of their own which helped to settle us down.

Exchanges were tight for the remainder of the half but our lads were picking some nice points to give us a 3-point lead at half time. The 2nd half was again tight for long periods but pressure told in the end and the Bs were convincing winners to book their place in the B final.

Delight all around for this team who are mainly composed of U11s and have done nothing but improve all year. Laune Rangers B await us in the final – date and venue to be confirmed.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchels B 3-13
Austin Stacks B 2-4

Our A’s were next up and were ready for a tight battle against a Stacks A team who had been very impressive in topping their group in Phase 2 to make the Division 1 semi-final. Again, Stacks were fast out of the blocks, scoring a good point from the throw in and looked to get their dangerous forwards in possession from early.

Our backs were up to the task though, restricting time and space on the ball while our midfield started to gain a grip on the game, resulting in three great goals and some great points taken also. We held a commanding lead at half time but having played with the wind in the first half we knew this game wasn’t over.

Stacks put on the pressure at the start of the second half but again our backs held firm in company with some outstanding goalkeeping to restrict the rockies to points. At the other end our forwards picked off some more scores to allow us see out the game comfortably. A great achievement for this team, who now look forward to a Division 1 final against Keel-Listry – date and time to be confirmed.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchels A 4-10
Austin Stacks A 0-9
