Under 16 Girls

Super work put in by the girls this week with plenty of good spirit from all. Training this week was based on attacking drills and taking the opportunity to score when it’s on. Plenty of kicking & hand passing over the bar style drills. We have updated our training days to Monday & Wednesday evenings from 7-8. We look ahead to our next fixture at home V MKL Gaels with a throw-in fixed for 7:00pm on Wednesday, 19th July. Training Monday time adjusted to 6-7pm.

Under 15 Boys
On Wednesday evening last we made the short trip to Ballymac to play the 3rd round of the Central League. We got off to a slow start conceding a couple of points without reply but we soon settled into the game with some great open play. We dominated midfield throughout the game with a great work rate.

We put quick ball into the forwards which paid dividends with Mitchels, running out winners on a score line of John Mitchels 1-16 to Ballymac 1-8. We await the semi-final draw and will continue to train details through whatsapp. Well done mentors and players on a fantastic victory.

Friday evening saw Team Gold in action against local rivals Austin Stacks on a desperate evening weather wise. We got off to a flying start with some well taken early points and very brave defending, playing against a strong wind in the first half, saw us work the ball very well through the lines and have a narrow lead at half time.

The second half was a very well contested match with both sides scrapping for every ball with Mitchels running out eventual winners on a scoreline of John Mitchels 4-8 to Austin Stacks 5-3. Well done players and coaches.

Under 14 Girls

John Mitchels under 14 girls Green team travelled to Killorglin last Monday night to take on Laune Rangers in Division 6 of the County League.

On a very poor surface, it was always going to be a challenging game and so it proved, as Mitchels had the better of the exchanges, but the home team stuck in there.

The Mitchels star of the show was undoubtedly Anna Marie Perkins, who grabbed 3-1 and was on fire in the corner forward position.

Her threat was so much that the Rangers eventually put a second marker on her to try and stop her scoring. An early point from Kerri Falvey was followed by Anna Marie’s first goal, picking up the rebound after a shot from Ciara Harris was saved.

Anna Marie’s second goal followed shortly after and while Rangers came back with 3 points, her third goal followed midway through the half. Rangers came more into the game with a goal, and another on the stroke of half time to leave it 3-3 to 2-4  at the break.

Rangers came out strongly in the second half scored 2 early points. However a free from Kerri Falvey steadied the ship and substitutes Nicole McCannon, Natalia Hennig and Ava Byrne brought fresh energy to the team. In particular Ava Byrne intercepted some dangerous ball while Nicole and Natalia shut down their markers.

A late goal from the impressive Ella McCannon and a point from Amy Noonan settled matters late on, in what was an exciting finish. Next up for the Green team is a home game against Beale on Tuesday, while the Gold team are at home to Inbhear Sceine Gaels on Monday night.

Under 13 Boys

The Green team played Ardfert in Division 1 of the Central league where we played a very competitive Ardfert team who pushed us extremely hard in the first half, with little between the teams at the break.

We pulled away in the second half and won out convincingly. Speedy recovery to the Ardfert player who got injured towards the end of the game.  We played Churchill in Division 4 of the Central League at home with the point awarded to Churchill.

Under 12 Girls

The U12 girls welcomed Tarbert to the Mitchels on Wednesday evening, led by Captain Margaret Coffey. Tarbert had a very strong side and despite the best efforts of the girls, it was not our night. Massive thanks to Sharon Mc Donnell Harris who is stepping down in her role as a coach for the u12 girls.

On behalf of all us in the Club we would like to express our thanks for Sharon for her tremendous commitment and hard work. Training continues every Wednesday & Sunday.

Under 11 Boys

No game this week so our under 11 boys will train this coming Thursday at 6.15pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. We are hoping to kick off our Central League campaign in the coming weeks. All new players are very welcome.

Under 9 Boys
John Mitchels under 9 Boys had a fantastic turn out on Tuesday evening last away to Milltown/Castlemaine. Both team’s displayed fantastic skills with some brilliant defending & scoring from both sides.  Our thanks to Milltown/Castlemaine GAA Club for being so well organized and we look forward to having their return visit to us in the near future. Well done again both sides
