SENIOR MEN

We played Laune rangers in county league last Saturday evening and we traded scores in first half and we added great scores from Shane O Connor And Mikey Kelleher but Laune rangers finished stronger in the half to lead 10 pts to 7. Laune rangers started brightly and lead 1-12 to 0-07 after 10 mins. We came back strong and brought the game to within 3 points but Laune rangers ran out deserving winners on 1-15 to 1-12. We now play Na Gaeil in a vital co league game next Sunday at 2pm at home

JUNIORS

Juniors are training in preparation of the next round of league. Fixtures to follow.

SENIOR LADIES

John Mitchels Senior Ladies welcomed Dingle ladies to Ballyseedy on Sunday for round 5 of Donal Curtin cup. Played in summer sunshine and a strong down field wind both teams gave a very good account of themselves.

With Mitchels playing against the wind in first half scores were hard to come by with every ball contested. Dingle opened the scoring with a point before several exchanges saw Ava Buckley O’Connell score a goal for Mitchels. Dingle struck back with 2 points before Rachel Kilgallen hit another goal for Mitchels in the 20th minute.

Mitchels Ashleigh Murphy and Leona O Shea we’re working hard at midfield backed up by Lucie O Donoghue and Lauren Smullen at half backs kept Dingle to the minimum space. Half time Mitchels 2-1 Dingle 1-4.

Mitchels had the wind in the second half but Dingle weren’t giving up too much with end-to-end football where Tanya O Connor, Carrie O Connor and Shannon Martin defended fantastically backed up by Kayleigh Collins in goals the excitement grew as Dingle struck for a goal to up the pressure.

Mitchels responded with great interplay from Ciara Kilgallen, Lisa Costello and Ruth O Neill to set up Rachel Kilgallen for her second goal.

Dingle responded with a goal of their own entering the last few minutes when Lynda O Connor hit a great free to the back of the Dingle net and on the restart, Ava Buckley raised the white flag to draw the team’s level. Dingle drove forward but great defence from Rachel Mc Eniry held them at bay with Jamie Finnegan, Hannah Stewart and Mia Rhys adding fresh legs we ended up with a draw.

Great credit to both teams for a terrific game final score Mitchels 4-2 Dingle 3-5. We are away to Beale on Sunday 22nd May.

We want to wish our midfielder Leona O Shea a Bon Voyage as Leona heads to Manchester next week. Hopefully we will see Leona back in the Green and Gold in the near future again. Best of luck Leona.

UNDER 17 BOYS

Our Minors travelled to An Gaeltacht Monday last for our second game in the Central League. In tough conditions out lads came out on top winning the game on a score line of 4-10 to 13 points. Next up is Milltown Castlemaine Monday 7pm.

U16 GIRLS

John Mitchels u16 ladies are away to Castlegregory in County League Division 5 semi-final this Tuesday 17th May, throw in @ 7.30pm. Best of luck to the girls. Training this Thursday 6.00-7.00pm

UNDER 15 BOYS

With no competitive games for a few weeks, we gave training a break for a week to help players recover from injury.  We resume training this Monday evening @5-45pm to 6-45pm and we’ll switch training from Friday to Thursday going forward to accommodate our Kerry development players. We need everybody training Monday and Thursday to be competitive in the upcoming central league

U14 GIRLS

Training last Thursday night for the John Mitchels u14 girls saw a combination game between the u14s with some of the u16 team adding to the competitive element. And it proved to be a very competitive challenge, with all of the girls putting in great effort and kicking some lovely scores, as well as demonstrating stout defending.

Due to the large number of events on in the John Mitchels Complex in Ballyseedy on Sunday, it was decided to give the girls a break from training on the weekend. Training will continue on Thursday next from 6-7 and all of the players are asked to attend.

UNDER 13 BOYS

A break this week for the U13s as we are awaiting confirmation of opposition for Phase 2 of the County League which commences next Sunday, May 22nd.

Training continues on Wednesday at 7pm and Friday at 8pm

U12 GIRLS

John Mitchels 2:04
Duagh 3:03

We began our County League campaign against Duagh last Wednesday evening and we were extremely unlucky to come away without a share of the spoils at least.

The girls played with unbelievable heart and showed incredible determination and pride in the jersey. We defended fantastically and had Duagh pressed back for long periods of the game.

We scored goals at vital times and never gave up. We finished both halves in the ascendancy and fought to the final whistle.

The coaches are extremely proud of every one of the 25 girls and we thank the parents and guardians for bringing the girls to training every day. The willingness to constantly improve is one of the obvious attributes of this group of girls and the attitude from everyone is to be admired.

We play Firies this Wednesday in Farranfore.
The game throws in at 7:15 PM and we will gather at 6:40 PM.
Please bring water and gum shields

UNDER 11 BOYS

We hosted Milltown Castlemaine on Thursday night in Ballyseedy  and there was some super football from both our U11 teams against a very good footballing and physical Milltown Castlemaine.

Both our teams struggled in windy conditions but as the saying goes it was a game of two halves and both teams came roaring back in the second half to put Milltown Castlemaine to the pin of their collar.

Well done boys. Big thank you to Liam Doherty and all his crew from Milltown Castlemaine. Phase 1 is now finished and Phase 2 will resume on the 2 June . We will train Sunday morning at 10.30 am and also next Thursday evening – time to follow

UNDER 9 BOYS

This week John Mitchels U9 Boys were away to Ballymac for some non-competitive Go Games. We had a great turnout in what was a fantastic day weather wise. We played 2 team’s 1 X U9 & 1 X U8 & had 2 highly competitive games with some great scoring & defending from both sides!! Our thanks to Ballymac for being well organized.

We as coaches are really happy with the improvements our players are making each week but as we keep saying……”Practice makes Perfect”

U8/U10/GIRLS

The sun was shining at John Mitchels on Sunday morning as the girls fully enjoyed their training. We made sure there was plenty of water breaks as temperatures were high. The girls started off with a warm-up and then straight into a hand passing and kicking drill. The girls are improving each week as the coaches can see it throughout the session. They finished off with a game in preparation for our next away game against Churchill on Wednesday18th at 7.00pm. We would appreciate if parents could organise to have the girls out in Churchill for 6.30pm on the 18th.

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

This week everyone in John Mitchels GAA club remembers Tim Broderick, whose 1 year anniversary occurs on the 18th of May. Tim was one of the corner stones of our club and his legacy lives on through the generations of footballer he coached and nurtured over the years. When our underage academy comes together every Sunday morning Tim’s name and memory echoes around our playing field. 1 year gone but never forgotten.

We had a very busy Sunday morning with our older under 7s travelling to Churchill for some very enjoyable Go Games.  Everyone gave a great account of themselves with games played in glorious sunshine.  Many thanks to Churchill for hosting the games. Meanwhile our younger under 7s continued training in Ballyseedy. We had a great turn out and a super effort was put in under a very warm sun.  The effort and commitment to learning the skills and having fun was super.  Well done to all the boys and girls. Training continues on Sunday mornings at 11am and as ever new members are always welcome.
