Senior Ladies

Bon Secours County Championship Round 4.

Glenflesk 1-10   John Mitchels 2-07

Our Senior Ladies continued their county championship group game where we were away to Glenflesk on Saturday evening,

Played in very warm conditions Mitchels played with the breeze and made a good start with some excellent t passing through the lines and Jamie Finnegan finished with a point, Mitchels continued to press and a move from Grace, Diana and Rachel fed the ball through to Ava who made no mistake and scored a goal.

Glenflesk with a quick kick-out moved the ball through the lines but Ashleigh at centre back intercepted to pass  to Shannon who found Grace with a crisp pass and Grace finished over the bar for a point.

On the restart Glenflesk now coming into the game scored 2 points before Ava had our 3 rd point before the water break, we seemed to lose our stride and Glenflesk pressed hard but excellent defending by Julie, Erica and Lucie aided by Sarah and Aoife and Clara kept us in the game we scored 2 more fine points from Grace with assists from Shauna and Diana to leave half time Mitchels 1-5 Glenflesk 0-4.

Second half and Glenflesk with the breeze attacked in waves with our defence under pressure we dug deep to minimise the scores,

Kayleigh in goals pulled off some excellent saves to keep us in the match coming into the last quarter, Grace hit a further point and then Glenflesk Goaled to leave us 4 points down,

Tanya came on for Rachel (injured) and with time running out Ava struck for a late goal to leave the minimum between us with light fading we managed to draw the energy from somewhere and a foul on Ava Mullin gave Diana a chance to score from a free which she duly did to level the match.

Glenflesk attacked again but great defending by Lorna and Ashleigh cemented a draw and now puts us in the quarter final of the Championship. Great performance well done to the squad who put in a tremendous effort. Final Score Mitchels 2-7 Glenflesk 1-10

Under 15 Boys

On Wednesday evening they made the short journey to Connolly Park to take on our town rivals Austin stacks on a perfect evening for football. The boys were slow to get going conceding a few early scores order was restored by half time as they took a slender lead into half time.

Early scores settled us well in the second half and they pulled away by 5 or 6 points. Half way through the second Stacks back into it with 2 goals to level things up with 10min to play. Our boys showed fight, heart and great character for the final 10 minutes and pressed the opposition all over the field with some brilliant late scores.

They ended winning on the night on a final score of Austin stacks 3-10 John Mitchels 3-15. Well done to the team and management on a fantastic victory away from home we will be in touch through the whatts app group about training times and days well done Mitchels.

Under 14 Girls

A terrific win by the u15 girls in the County Championship quarter final against Shannon side Tarbert last Tuesday has put us into a semi-final.

Our opponents will be Beale, who we have played twice this year at u14 level, so it promises to be a very evenly balanced game.

The Mitchels controlled the first half, leading by 2-4 to 0-1 and despite making a number of substitutions, they ran out comfortable winners by 4-10 to 2-4.

The semi-final against Beale is at home this Tuesday evening 12th September at 7pm. All support is welcomed. The u13s are out in their Championship opener against Finuge St Senans on Friday night, at home in Ballyseedy at 7pm.
