Club Notes 25th April 2022

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

This week saw our juvenile registration day and all the players at the Academy received their Certificate of Registration, Skills Book and Rucksack.

Well done to all of those volunteers who led on this initiative. We had a glorious morning of sunshine for training Sunday morning where we were aso delighted to welcome a number of our Ukrainian neighbours to Ballyseedy.

The boys and girls went through all their skills with emphasis on the solo and kicking.  The boys and girls put in a great effort and great fun was had.

We also welcomed some Ukrainian children up for training and a fabulous morning was had by all. Training continues next Sunday morning at 11am and new members are always welcome.

U8/U10/GIRLS

We had a fantastic training session last Sunday morning in Ballyseedy with the u8 and 10 girls. The sun was shining and the girls were in great spirits as they practiced kicking and hand passing the ball. The future is bright as some of the skills on display were excellent and the girls are really picking up the skills of the game very quickly.

We finished off the session with a game and it was a tightly fought encounter with both sides giving it their all. Well done girls and please keep up the great work. Remember to practice at home if you can and we really look forward to seeing you all next Sunday morning at 11 am. Please bring water and gum shields to practice.

U12 GIRLS

Action on the playing field is coming thick and fast for our U12 girls this month and we play our 4th game in the North Kerry league away to Duagh on Wednesday night, April 27th. The game throws in at 7 pm and we will be meeting at the Duagh GAA ground at 6:30 pm.

Please bring gum shields to the game, as without them we are unable to play. The intensity and focus at training has been excellent and we have had great commitment from all the girls over the season so far.

We are very grateful for the effort shown by the parents and guardians as well, who take the time to bring the girls to training each week.

Last Wednesday night we were unlucky to lose out to Currow by a single goal and if luck had gone our way, we could have taken something from the game. We fought to the end and never gave up and the spirit and resilience never faded.

We are very proud of all the girls who give their all for the green and gold jersey each week. Training this week on Sunday Morning at 12:15 pm, please bring water and gum shields.

U14 GIRLS

The John Mitchels U14 team exited the County League at the quarter final stage, with a tough loss to Spa in Killarney on Sunday.

It proved to be a cracking, high scoring game throughout, with the home team starting the stronger, as Mitchels struggled to get into the pace of the game. With the aid of the slope and one or two strong players, Spa scored a couple of early goals to put them in the driving seat.

However, Mitchels came back and with Sadhbh Corkery having been moved from defence to the full forward position, she helped pull the Tralee team back into the game, with an opening point and followed up with a couple of goals.

That, coupled with strong midfield play from Nadia Rivas McHugh and Brigid Stewart, ensured that at the break, Mitchels were in with a chance.

The second half saw Mitchels take the game to Spa and with further goals from Kerri Falvey and Sadhbh Corkery, the Spa lead came down to 2 points at one stage.

In addition, the back line was playing well, with Gia Sharma and Isabel Daly, captain for the day, in control.

Laoise O’Sullivan was playing really well, doing a tight marking job on the Spa danger player, while Nicole Hennig and Ella McCannon were working really hard, helping out Ellie O’Rahilly and Ellie Reidy in attack.

Unfortunately, as the game went into the closing stages, a couple of Spa goals put them in control of the game, and despite the Killarney team losing a player to a red card late in the game, they had done enough to get them over the line.

It was a tough battle but the coaches were hugely pleased with the performance, particularly some of the scores that the players kicked.

When compared to our first performance of the season, there has really been a massive improvement in the team and as we move onto the next competition, we have a lot of positives to take away from this competition.

Training continues on Thursday next from 6-7pm.

U16 GIRLS

Training continues for U16s this week ahead of Division 5 county league game against Castlegregory scheduled for May 3rd @ Mitchel’s.

UNDER 9 BOYS

John Mitchels U9 boys trained under the fantastic sunshine on Sunday last. This week we welcomed some Ukrainian Families up to our academy for some fun games and exercise. It was great to see everyone mixing and our lads teaching the skills to our new Ukrainian friends.

In the session we practised handpassing and kicking followed by some fun games.

Training continues for U9 boys next Sunday from 11am to 12.00pm.

All newcomers welcome.

UNDER 11 BOYS

We travelled to Ballymac Thursday night in the second round of the county league and both teams put in fantastic performances in the sunshine.

The U11 boys powered through with some unbelievable football against a very physical Ballymac team.  Our U10 boys showed great heart and courage against a physically imposing Ballymac and also showed great composure and kicked some fantastic scores .

Well done to all the lads for showing great commitment. We play Laune Rangers on Thursday 27 April at 6:30 in Killorglin – all support greatly appreciated.

UNDER 13 BOYS

Our u13s travelled to Legion Thursday evening and, in a pulsating clash that swung from end to end, were eventually defeated by 7 points. It was a brave effort by our lads but the concession of goals at key times proved too much to overcome.

Sundays A game against Crokes was postponed, but the B game went ahead against the men from Killarney. It was a tough evening for our very young B team against an exceptionally strong Crokes but to their credit our boys never stopped trying and deserved greater reward for their efforts.

Training continues this Wednesday at 7pm. No fixtures set currently but the back game Vs Dr. Crokes make take place next Sunday, May 1st

UNDER 15 BOYS

On Wednesday evening last we played Austin Stacks in our fourth game in league Division 1, Stacks are top of the division so this would prove to be a very tough match for us. In the first half we played very well with a strong wind with some beautiful football played by Mitchels

In the second half we had to deal with an increasingly strong breeze and a very strong Stacks team who out played us our boys never gave up right to the final whistle. On Wed next we play anGaeltacht at home in Ballyseedy at 7pm training continues Monday and Friday 5-45pm

UNDER 17 BOYS

With the u 17 boys awaiting their next fixtures training continues on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6.00pm-7.15pm All newcomers welcome.

SENIOR LADIES

John Mitchels Senior Ladies were away to Rathmore B on Sunday morning. A very evenly matched contest saw the home side leading by 1-01 to 0-01 at half time. Rathmore added another goal in the second half, but goals from John Mitchels Ruth O Neill and Leona O Shea put the away side right back in it.

With 5 minutes to play Mitchels pulled ahead with a point from Ava Buckley, however Rathmore pegged one back at the death to hang on for the draw. A great game of football from both teams, well done to all involved.

Final Score

Rathmore B 2-04  –  John Mitchels    2-04

SENIOR MEN

John Mitchels were at home to the high-flying Desmonds out and went in at half time down John Mitchel’s 6 points Castleisland Desmond’s 1-6 points.

Mitchel’s played an impressive defensive display and we welcomed new senior debutants Ciaran White and Robert Kerins to senior county league. Next game Away to Annauscaul proves vital.

Full time score John Mitchels 10 Castleisland Desmond’s 2-10

JUNIORS

Mitchels 2nd Senior team were away to Kilcummin  Saturday evening last in the league with 21 players on view, it was great to see players back from last season. The first half was a tight contest with both teams exchanging score. Kilcummin led at half time on a score line of 1-5 to 0-5.

The second half Mitchels upped the tempo and got back on level terms only for Kilcummin to add another goal and a flurry of points. Backs to the wall Mitchel’s came back fighting with the help of a Steven Bowler goal and added points from Steve Mahony & Peter Murphy.

It made for a great comeback & showed great team spirt from the whole panel. Some fine performances on the night –  in defence James Moran in goal, Danny Bowler & Dan Kerins putting in some great tackles and Steven Bowler at midfield was a power house on the night. Up front Martin Laucher Dylan O Brien & Peter Murphy were all in great form.

Great to see strong players coming in off the bench, David Rogers, Steve Mahony, Eoin Bardon, David McCarthy and Dominic Craig. Well done to all on the night & looking forward to seeing more from this bunch of players in the next round. Mitchels Abú
